Week One Results (10 September to 16 September) Wow, we have some real walkers in this group. Although all of you have not reported in yet (shame on you), the eleven that have reported in have averaged (alone and in group) 166049 steps for the week (far more than the 50,00 steps a week that was suggested). At this rate, you may get to the moon and back. The average for walking as an individual was 57,422 and for walking as a group was 132,767. If we assume that there are 2,000 steps in a mile, then on an average you are walking on an average 83 mile per week. At that rate you will walk farther than Thoreau walked on his trips to the Cape or to Mt. Katahdin. Keep on walking!! Week Two through Four (17 September to 07 October) People are still striding out in good fashion, although the average is a bit less than that first week. I guess the excitement of the chase has fallen off a bit, plus the days keep getting shorter and shorter. We tried to have a group walk on Sunday the 1st of October, but we were rained out. I did present a lecture entitled "Henry David Thoreau, Wanderer: His Maine Experiences." If you were unable to attend that lecture, I have a link to it right here. It may take a while to download and you do have to have PowerPoint on your computer to view it. Some of us will now be centering our walking in Italy. We'll try to soak up all those experiences and send them vicariously back to you. I will continue to track your step totals, so keep sending them in via the website or e-mail. Ciao |
