Fall 2007 Program Page
Kick-off:
9 September 2007 at 3 PM Boyd Large Lecture Auditorium (Boyd
144). This program will consist of registration, Short talk on the program and
its theme, and short walk around Plymouth. Although all participants are
encouraged to attend this event, you can register by mail.
Program Length:
Starts on the 9th of September and goes for ten weeks,
ending on the 17th of November
Program Theme:
This year's theme deals with women walkers, hikers and
explorers. At intervals there will be evening programs describing the lives
and activities of some of these women. There will also be information
available on this website on these women. In addition to these talks, there
will be organized walks, a CROP walk (sometime in November), and a celebratory
breakfast at the end of the program.
Registration Form
Divisions:
Competitive--There will be two divisions in the competitive
component, a team and an individual. All persons registered in the team
division, will automatically be registered in the individual division. Team
members must track their weekly step totals using a pedometer or
step-equivalent chart and submit those totals either to the website or the
program coordinator. Teams will score by determining the average weekly step
totals of all members of the team and summing that average over the ten weeks.
Each participant in the competitive division is encouraged to do 10,000 steps
daily. For the individual component there will be two divisions, an adult and
a youth. Again, all participants should report their weekly step totals.
Non-competitive--Why have a non-competitive division. There
are many reasons. Some people don't like wearing pedometers or messing with
pedometers. Some folk, simply don't like to compete. But if you don't track
your steps or compete against other walkers, why should I sign up. Well,
signing up provides you with a formal goal. The program encourages all non-competetive
walkers to do at least one half hour of exercise per day. We would also
encourage you to find another person in this division and make plans to walk
or exercise with them on a regular basis. Having an exercise companion
provides a reason for exercising even when one doesn't feel like exercising.
Prizes:

Team:
1st-$30

All participants, regardless of division, will receive a
certificate of completion, a light breakfast, and a chance to win various
items via a drawing at the celebratory breakfast at the end of the program.
Plus, the best prize of all, is knowing that you have done ten weeks worth of
exercise and the impact that exercise will have on your health is extremely
important.
